My leadership and volunteering experiences along with my academic study of leadership have shaped my leadership and volunteering philosophy. Reflecting on my leadership experiences has increased my self-awareness of my leadership style. I facilitate participation of all team members and I value their diverse perspectives in shaping our process. I am committed to empowering everyone involved in the process with the knowledge and resources vital for their performance. It is important to me that I aid the personal and professional growth of my team members by identifying and facilitating learning opportunities for them throughout the process of achieving our shared goals. I ensure that my actions reflect ownership of my work, self-accountability, and personal commitment to excellence in order to inspire others to do the same.
My leadership experiences and study have culminated into my personal definition of leadership: Leadership is a shared process of visioning and bringing a positive change, which would otherwise not happen, to improve the community for everyone.
Volunteering has allowed me to make positive and lasting contributions to improving my communities to benefit all fellow members. While volunteering has allowed me to pass-on the many gifts of mentorship, knowledge, and services I have benefited from, it has also allowed me to benefit from the experience of collaborating with many amazing individuals. I believe that my volunteering experiences have impacted me more than I have impacted the community through them. They have enhanced my learning and broadened my worldview.
